Support for Zelenskyi: Nadiia Savchenko returns to Ukrainian parliament

Ukrainian lawmaker Nadiia Savchenko has returned to parliament a week after she was unexpectedly released from jail, where she had been held for more than a year over allegations that she plotted a terrorist attack on parliament.

On April, 23 Nadiia Savchenko stated that she does not plan to be in the opposition to future President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi as UNIAN reported.

Savchenko was asked whether she is going to support a new president or join the opposition.

“I saw that all old political forces can work only in a such way. They agreed and joined a coalition or they did not agree and joined the opposition. Without agreements. It was enough for me to read his program. Many points there are those I was talking about three years ago. I saw in Zelenskiy’s program everything that had to be there. I think that must be supported. He called the extension of the Constitution with such a simple point as an economic wallet, economic card of a citizen. There are also many other things, which should be settled, balanced in Ukraine to achieve the situation we are striving for, to make people feel the civil power model but not just head in the slogans», — Savchenko admitted.

Savchenko said she will continue to work as a lawmaker in the Verkhovna Rada «because I was sworn in to the Ukrainian people.»

«As for my political future, yes, I will stay in politics. I will not be alone. I have a team,» she said.

She complained Russia had stolen two years from her five-year term in parliament, and «another year was stolen by the Ukrainian authorities.»

As we reported earlier, on April,16 the judge of the Brovarsky district court of the Kyiv region released Ukrainian member of parliament Nadiia Savchenko and former officer Volodymyr Ruban from the jail. Savchenko was detained in mid-March of 2018. She is charged with preparation of terrorist attack in the center of Kiev, and attacks on representatives of Ukrainian authorities, including President Petro Poroshenko.
